Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons and/or examples that could be used to challenge your position. I firmly reject this statement. While advicing students to consider their own abilites and strenghts when they look for their own career path is commonplace (or even ecommended), I believe the main purpose of educational institutions in this area is different. I think their Job is to present students with the complete spectrum of careers and Jobs available so that they can, by themselves, choose the one that best suits him. Some may argue that people are too young when they make these big, life changing decisions, and they may be right. After all, it may not be realistic that an 18 year old is ready for that kind of responsibility. Maybe we should only guide them towards areas in which they seem apt. But that takes away too much from them; not only is that a great restriction on their free will, it could crush their dreams. If that was the kind of world in which we lived, Albert Einstein may have never become what he did. While in school, Einstein had terrible grades and flunked most of his clases. Had someone seen that and dissuaded him from phisics, we would certainly live in a different world. Possibly one worst off that the one we live in today. What about Lionel Messi? While being a kid, he had growth hormone deficiency, but e is now one of the best soccer players in the world. And this is somenthig that should be treated equally at home; as the famous quote goes: Education starts at home. My fathers family has a marked engineering tradition, speecificaly in civil engineering. When he chose his undergraduate degree, he went with that tradition even if he wasnt quite sure about it. During his college years, he started to get close to computers and found his passion with them. Now he is one of the top computing researchers in M? ©xico. The bottom line is that nothing maximizes ones chances of succes like passion, interest and pleasure in doing what they do. We could always steer children into the jobs and careers that could maximize their posibilities of succes, but would that make them happy? Could we even know accurately what fields of study they could excel and fail in? Maybe, but why would we? What Is the PSAT 10? The PSAT 10 is a practice SAT exam that debuted in the 2015-16 school year. It is aligned to the SAT,meaning it has similar question types and the same Reading, Writing, and Math sections. Its scores are based ona total scale of 320-1520. Unlike the SAT, which is designed for juniors and seniors, the PSAT 10 is designed specifically for sophomores in high school. As a result, its questions are not as difficult as those on the SAT. So why do these exams have different names then? PSAT 10 Reading Section All questions in the PSAT 10 Reading section are multiple choice and based on passages.You'll have 60 minutes to answer 47 questions. The Reading section passages are drawn from American and world literature, history/social studies articles, and science articles. You'll get four passages and a set of paired passages for which you'll be asked to compare them. In other words, the Reading section goes beyond your basic "read the passage, answer the questions" standardized test. Both the SAT and PSAT emphasize the following skills, or subscores, in their Reading sections: Analysis in history/social studies passages Analysis in science passages Interpretation of words in context Command of evidence Analysis of history/social studies and analysis of science mean that you'll have to analyze patterns in the writing and choose answers explaining how and why certain phenomena are true. Interpretation of words in context means that you'll be asked to define a word’s meaning given its context in the passage.Note that you won’t be asked obscure vocab questions. Finally, command of evidence tests your ability to identify parts or words in a passage that support or give evidence for specific claims, conclusions, and/or interpretations. Notice how the emphasis is on what the sentence means in the context of the passage (not shown): PSAT 10 Writing Section For the PSAT 10 Writing section, you will also be working with passages. Passages on the PSAT 10 Writing section are either arguments, informative/explanatory texts or nonfiction narratives. Now that you understand what the similarities and differences are between the PSAT 10 and PSAT NMSQT, which test should you take? Below, we give you a few key tips to help you decide whether to take the PSAT 10 or the PSAT NMSQT: As a junior, you should definitely take the PSAT/NMSQT.Doing this will give you a shot to qualify for the National Merit competition should you score high enough for it; you'll also get the most rigorous practice for the SAT. Education before 1833 did depend upon personal wealth along with other factors, (fully explained later on. ) Different classes of people attended different types of schools, and the costs that the schools charged would have a great impact on the types of people attending them. A governess would look after the wealthy children, and the boys governess would be replaced by a tutor, until they were old enough to attend school. This tutor would teach Greek and Latin. But in order for the boys to be taught mathematics, and French a visiting master must be hired. The girls, on the other hand, were taught accomplishments, which included music, drawing and dancing. The womens role was to be elegant and to entertain as a wife, not to be educated and working outside of the home. This was where the education stopped for the females; though, the upper class young boys went on to attend a public school, such as the ones at Eton, Harrow and Winchester, which taught classics, such as Latin and Greek, classical History and sport. Though these schools were well known for bullying, including fagging, strict corporal punishments and really bad teaching. These types of schools were very inefficient, and many parents knew these schools taught mainly manly habits, such as fighting and bullying. There was a range of schools for middle class children depending on the wealth of their families. Upper middle class children (still of wealthy parentage) would attend a private school; these were for mainly boys though some girls did attend these types of schools. The boys would be taught Classics and Maths, and the girls would be taught manners, singing, dancing, painting and embroidery. These were usually boarding schools, though the same types of subjects were taught, these would have been the cheaper of the two schools. Another middle class school was the grammar schools, to attend these schools you must have been followers of the Church of England, a protestant, Christian. These schools were for only boys and taught Classics, Maths and following later Languages. Grammar schools were usually in wealthy towns such as Wolsingham, Bishop and Durham (at the time,) these were for only for middle class children. Another type of school only for middle class children were the dissenting academies, these only taught none Church of England children, but again only took boys. These dissenting academies had the most up to date curriculum, teaching Maths, Science, Geography, Languages and accounting. These schools were the best at the time, and were highly popular among the middle classes. Charity schools were aimed at the lower middle classes, and/or working class children. Few of these schools did give working class children a proper education. (Internet. ) These schools were for the male and female children. They taught the three Rs, Religion, Crafts (Weaving and shoe making. ) These were only very small schools, charging small fees, but to the parents paying them these fees would seem extremely high. These schools were usually in villages such as Willington, the average pay a week for a typical working class person is around 10d, and out of this 2d would be spent on a Childs education. This is an extremely high proportion. The last school that is aimed at lower middle class children or working class children are the dame schools. These taught Reading, sewing, knitting or nothing. These kinds of schools were more of a child minding service rather than a school, and what was taught depended upon the person that ran the school. Its not much they pay me, so its not much I teach them. One Dame said (Culpin) Without wealth, to pay for an education, children werent educated enough to get good jobs, these children ended up down the pit. Not surprisingly most of these children were lower or working class children. People needed money to get an education, if they didnt get an education they would end up with a bad paying job, going nowhere in life. As Ive already said, it isnt the only factor though; Wealth is probably the largest factor, though as you can see males had a much better, fuller education than the females. And religion also determined what type of school you attended in these times. Of course personal wealth determined what type of school a person attended, though so did other factors. But to me the best type of schools at the time were the dissenting academies, though these were for the middle classes.

Depression is a disturbance in a person’s feelings that will lead one to be unusually low, sad, or empty. Depressed mood is not classified as a psychiatric disorder although it could most certainly be a feature of clinical depression. The state of low mood a person feels can lead to suicidal thoughts, feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, loss of interest in activities that were once pleasurable, and several other symptoms (3). The introduction of psychoactive drugs in the 1950’s started the era of using drugs to treat anxiety, psychosis, and the ever so popular, depression. The new answer for depression was quickly replaced from therapy, to drugs. After the creation of these drugs the world of psychiatry would forever be changed (1). The years following the surplus distribution of psychoactive drugs led to more research about these â€Å"miracle drugs.† Studies concluded that billions of neural networks in our brain are used to send and receive signals from other firing neurons (2). Several chemicals also called neurotransmitters are distributed throughout the brain. Neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin have been theorized to affect an individual’s mood levels. Depression patients are claimed to have less serotonin than those who are not depressed (3). The problem with this assumed theory is that instead of developing a drug to treat an irregularity, an irregularity was developed to suit a drug. An example of this used elsewhere is by perhaps appealing that all pain conditions are a problem due to lack of opiates (9). Antidepressants are used... ...r it (5). Many people do not realize that antidepressants are prescribed for other anxiety, neurological pain, fibromyalgia, and sleep problems. This should be taken in account when surveys are conducted as to how many antidepressants are prescribed (4). Antidepressants are serious drugs that should be prescribed when necessary and monitored carefully. In depression especially doctors should be sure that antidepressants will help their patients rather than harm them. Medicine should be used to help those who truly need it and not just be prescribed endlessly. Confronting psychological and sometimes physical pain from depression is necessary. Managing some of this pain through psychotherapy might help alleviate the need for so many antidepressants. Overall antidepressants will probably remain controversial and people should be educated about their pros and cons.

My Writing Process Essay

The writing process is a step by step process that requires different stages of development in order to construct an essay or paper. Every writer has a different and unique writing process. Personally, I believe that there is no single approach to producing an essay, rather multiple ways in which a writer may arrive at the final product. My writing process breaks down into four main steps; pre-writing, writing, revising/editing and then rewriting. Throughout my years of writing in high school I have never considered myself to be a strong writer. The writing process can be very frustrating for me, because even after I have done my brainstorming and organizing, once I begin writing I will instantly start crossing out what I wrote and changing my sentences. This sometimes can make the writing process seem long and tedious, and is often very frustrating, however, by exploring and practicing the different steps of the writing process that work best for me I will able to produce well written essays that clearly communicate my intended message to my reader. In this essay I will examine my writing process, in hopes of becoming a more skilled writer and communicator, and will further develop my ability to create thoughtful and well-constructed essays. Because I believe that writing is a skill that is utilized throughout a person’s life, it is essential to know how to prepare, organize and edit as it is useful in a myriad of situations. When beginning to write an essay, I know preparation is essential. My initial task is picking a topic, unless it is given. After determining a topic, I then generate a thesis statement, which should not only support the topic but prepare the reader for the contents of the essay. I then begin my next step which is usually brainstorming and doing research to expand my knowledge on the subject given, or chosen topic. When I brainstorm, I get a piece of paper and pen to write down any ideas that come to mind. I then develop the jumbled mass of thoughts into a list of more complete ideas and points that I wish to address. The last part of the pre-writing stage for me is to outline. Outlining helps me to structure the paper and determine how I want all of my information to lay out. My outline will show where and what main points I want to include in each of my paragraphs. I am now ready to begin creating my rough draft; this is the most difficult process for me, as I have always experienced difficulty simply beginning to write the essay. I make organization my ultimate goal during this step, because once my ideas, focuses and points are organized, I am able to freely write. I make sure I have all of my pre-writes at hand, as they are my guide for writing my rough draft. I think that creating the rough draft is the most essential step when producing an essay, as it contains the outline of the topic being explored and it gives way to the thinking process. I will write as much information as I can without correcting anything. When I have all the information I want written down, I then check what I have and start to add necessary information, and erase information that isn’t consistent or accurate regarding my thesis. Another important aspect of writing an essay is the conclusion, just as every essay has a clear beginning, it should also have a clear ending. The conclusion should make the essay sound finished. The more time that I put into giving my rough draft a strong foundation, the easier it will be for me to add my finishing touches to the final essay. Revising and editing my essays are the most crucial step and I spend most of my time during this process, I never think what I have written can’t be improved. I tend to go over and over my words and change them as many times as is needed. I have been told that to â€Å"revise† is to look again at what is written and see how it can be improved. Usually, I will start to revise as soon as I begin my rough draft. I do this because I find myself constantly rearranging my words and sentences as I work out my ideas. I have also been taught that the best time to revise is a day or two after having written the rough draft so there is distance from the work and it is easier to spot errors, and make changes. One thing I have learned that the revision step involves much more than just correcting errors in my grammar, spelling and punctuation. The last thing I make sure I do while revising is to read my work aloud so I am able to hear if something needs to be changed in my writing that I am unable to see. Once I have finished revising, I turn my attention to editing and proofreading my essay. I examine my sentences to make sure they are clear, concise and free of mistakes. I double check for run on sentences and wordy sentences which are a weakness in my writing. I will also check each word in my essay and make sure they are appropriate with what I’m trying to say, check for spelling errors and making sure my punctuation is correct. A lesson I have learned from writing is everybody makes mistakes, and the worst mistake is forgetting to proofread. After I have completed the revising and editing process, I have my final draft ready. I ensure that it is in the correct MLA format and any citations are correct. I always take the time to read over my paper one or two more times before turning in my final copy. It could mean the difference of a letter grade! Now that I have examined my writing process I am able to pin point the things I need to work on in order it improve my writing skills. I can see the importance of the writing process and the step by step process I will continue to follow and critique in order to make myself a great writer. The four stages of my writing process are framework for me to improve, write well and hopefully make it easier. Writing is the primary basis, upon which my work and learning are judged, it expresses who I am as a person and makes my thinking visible.

Hikes on the islands, especially to the higher elevations will show you amazing views of the surrounding area. It is very easy to get to the islands by plane from all over Europe and elsewhere with Air Seychelles. Connection flights can be easily arranged. The airlines offers trips from six European capitals and nine major cities to the main island of Mahe weekly. They also offer daily inter-island flights. Pitch Perfect

Pitch Perfect This week my literary agent said she’ll submit my young adult novel to publishers. Her advice to me during this waiting period is â€Å"You must be patient. Are you patient?† Yes! For me to have gotten to this point, I had to be incredibly patient - over 10 years’ worth of persistence. And I’m beyond excited. Because from where I sat a decade ago, this moment would have seemed impossible. But after an adventurous trek through the wilds of editing, the challenges of slush pile and Twitter querying, and the thrills of face-to-face pitching to agents, I know I’ve not only prepared my best work but also have the best representation for my novel. Just as Hope preaches, practice at this writing thing does make perfect. Agents aren’t kidding when they say they want a manuscript that’s ready. They’re not interested in â€Å"potential.† I learned this when I queried my manuscript too early over a year ago. My story garnered some partial reads from a few agents, but eventually, over 50 rejections. (Keep in mind I had to query far more agents - over 100 - to get 50 â€Å"nos.†) During the revision process these last two years, my novel has changed titles three times and has improved thanks to feedback from two freelance editors and over 20 beta readers. A former acquisitions editor I found via Editing-Writing.com suggested key changes that ultimately got me the attention from my current agent. So February a year ago, with a new title, a much tighter plot, and a whole new query letter, I was ready to pitch again and even travel to Chicago to meet agents. These writing workshops hosted The logline was also the perfect tool for #PitMad, a day of Twitter pitching that happens four times a year, where authors share manuscripts with agents using 140 characters. From the three tweets you’re allowed, I received three requests from agents. Here’s one that worked: â€Å"When a friend is sexually assaulted, a teen journalist learns it’s better to go NYT, not TMZ, when reporting the crime. #PitMad #YA.† But it was the slush pile query that ultimately brought me the pot of gold. While Twitter and face-to-face pitching, I never stopped sending out a revised email query: at least two a week. This one featured the logline, now the hook in my first paragraph. Agent Amy Tipton of Signature Literary asked for my full manuscript in June and made me an offer of representation.
